Exhibit details

Exhibit The stuffed white shark is male measuring 4.85 meter in length. It was found dead drifting in the Chidori canal of Kawasaki Port on October 26, 2005.
No external wound was found, and the cause of death and the drifting route are still not known.
One of the largest in the world! It is one of the largest male sharks in the world and is academically valuable as evidence of presence of sharks in the waters near Tokyo Bay. No external wound was found on the shark, and the cause of its death and the drifting route are still not known. During autopsy of the shark, a dolphin tail was found in its stomach.
Academic value - I Records of individual large white sharks are available in various places, but almost all of them are numbers only (such as full length and weight). Only jaws have been preserved as specimens. The stuffed white shark has given us detailed measurements of each part of its body. Its gills, spine, and meat pieces are kept at Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History for study of the form and ancestry of white sharks that are still living.
Academic value - II Also, such specimens are very useful when investigating ancient white sharks (white shark fossils).Exhibited scenery
Most bones of sharks are made of cartilages. Therefore, in many cases, only hard teeth and vertebral body can be found in shark fossils. By comparing shark fossils with living sharks, we may be able to estimate the total length and weight of fossilized sharks. However, this requires a lot of specimens. The accumulation of specimens will continue in the future, and the shark specimens we have will increase in their importance.
Nickname The nickname "Kawajiro" is taken from "Kawasaki" and "Hoojirozame" (white shark). This name was selected from more than 2,800 entries.
