HOME > Message from the President
Kawasaki Port was developed as a core port of the Keihin industrial area. It was formed by reclamation in a project led by Soichiro Asano, which spanned the years from 1910s to 1920s. In June 1951, Kawasaki City became the port manager according to the Port and Harbor Law. In September of the same year, the port was designated by the national government as a particularly important port within the international maritime transport network. Also, in April 2011, to make sure the port will not lag behind the many rapidly developing Asian ports and to strengthen its international competitiveness, Kawasaki Port was designated, along with Tokyo Port and Yokohama Port, as the highest position of a particularly important port (name changed to "international site port"). It now continues to develop as a comprehensive port which supports industry and civic life in the metropolitan area.
Kawasaki Port Promotion Association was founded in June 1987 by the mayor of Kawasaki and the president of Kawasaki Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It happened right before completion of the Higashi Ogishima reclamation project by the Kawasaki City to create a comprehensive port with enhanced commercial functions. Many stakeholders deeply involved in Kawasaki Port participated in the establishment of the association, with the common goal of promoting the port.
In December 1991, the association was approved as an incorporated foundation. In April 2012, with the reform of the public interest incorporated foundation system, the foundation began its new start as a public interest incorporated foundation.
The role of the Kawasaki Port Promotion Association is to promote mutual cooperation among members in order to help members grow and expand their businesses. It also promotes expanded use of the port and efficient management. One aim is to reduce logistics costs so as to strengthen the competitiveness of the regional industry. This will contribute to the development of the regional economy and improvement of civic life. With these objectives in mind, we will develop various projects with guidance and support from our members. We will make further efforts to promote development of Kawasaki Port. I look forward to your cooperation. Thank you.
